About the event

Join Rebecca Jayne and Jim Cozens in hosting the fourth of their songwriters sessions at The Star Inn, Guildford alongside very special guests Jess Thristan and Tom Gortler. £5 entry.

Jess Thristan

Recording artist Jess Thristan wrote her first song, “The Shield”, at the early age of 15 and five years later recorded it at the famous Angel Studios with a 24- piece orchestra along with other tracks such as a stunning cover of The Beatles’ “From Me to You” which became the music for the SKY TV Christmas 2015 campaign. From selling out her own night at London members club The Library to opening for Jade Helliwell for UK Country Live and Remember Monday’s single launch party presented by CountrylineTV, which also rendered lovely praise on Maverick magazine, Jess closed the year with Tim Prottey-Jones (The Wandering Hearts) and Jamie Evans (Wildwood Kin) getting in touch to collaborate. 2019 saw Jess make her festival debut at award-winning Buckle & Boots as well as release her new single The Old Me, heavily supported by radio DJ Baylen Leonard, Chris Country, BBC Introducing, BBC London, Soho Radio and country legend Brad Paisley who played the single on his BBC Radio 2 show. Jess' new releases were also added to Spotify and Deezer editorial playlists.

Tom Gortler

Brought up on the sounds that blared through the speakers of his Mothers battle-worn 7-seater, Tom’s extensive musical background and appreciation sprawl into his writing style. With a passion for the traditional, authentic-sounding production that can be found in the records of yesteryear, layered with modern additions and an effortless vocal, Tom Gortler writes with nothing but clarity. At 20 years old, his carefully crafted lyrics not only resonate with his peers but also create moments for every generation, and with his first release, ‘Look What We Found’, he delivers an honest and relatable insight into the trials and tribulations of love, a reoccurring theme throughout this old souls, already extensive, catalogue of songs.

Rebecca Jayne

At 24 years old, Rebecca has a substantial writers reel already having co-written with industry professionals and taking regular trips to Nashville for writing sessions. She has charted in both the Top 100 iTunes Singles Charts and Top 40 iTunes Album Charts with her EP titled 'Things I've Done' in 2018.

Jim Cozens

A classic singer songwriter and story teller, his songs are personal, universal, joyful and moving. In a long, eclectic career he’s written songs for other artists, music for radio, television and movie productions and, once upon a time, survived the Eurovision circus.
